LAS VEGAS – Olive Crest’s Project Independence program will now be able to serve more local youth than ever thanks to a donation from House Advantage, an international customer loyalty, marketing, strategy and technology company headquartered in Las Vegas. Project Independence assists current or former youth with identifying and achieving their educational and employment goals as they transition out of foster care. The program offers participants a safe, furnished apartment, a resident advisor for 24-hour emergency availability, weekly visits by a case-manager to support self-sufficiency goals, funds for living expenses, therapy, assistance in building community networks, mentoring, independent living skills workshops, job readiness training and a saving match program for program graduates.
“Because of the trauma and instability kids in foster care have experienced, the transitioning process can be difficult when they leave the foster care system,” said Myesha Wilson, executive director for Olive Crest. “We are grateful to Mr. Wolfe and House Advantage for helping fund Project Independence so we can help more youth achieve their self-sufficiency and financial goals.”
Candidates for Project Independence must be between the ages of 16 – 24, willing to enroll in high school, college or trade school, and demonstrate the ability to seek and maintain employment.
“Project Independence helps so many local young adults in our community on the path to success,” said Jon C. Wolfe, President and CEO of House Advantage. “We are proud to support Olive Crest in Nevada and their mission of transforming the lives of at-risk kids in crisis. This program is an unsung hero in the Las Vegas community. It provides significant support and opportunities to these great kids and provides a real foundation both in present circumstances and for their long-term growth and success,” Wolfe added.
